These are my predictions and hopes for what is sure to be one hell (in a cell) of a night for WWE so long as they don’t do what they usually do and ruin everything…
WWE’s next pay-per-view is tonight live on the WWE Network and it should be a good one. ‘Hell In A Cell’ always provides high drama and excitement as well as plenty of extreme, high-risk manoeuvres and expect nothing less here tonight. Four titles are on the line including Jinder Mahal’s big WWE Title which he will defend against the king of strong style Shinsuke Nakamura, while the Phenomenal AJ Styles will defend his United States Championship against the Lone Wolf Baron Corbin. Outside of title matches we have the huge hell in a cell match between Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon, the climax of what has been a bitter and evil feud over the past month or so. These are my predictions and hopes for what is sure to be one hell (in a cell) of a night for WWE so long as they don’t do what they usually do and ruin everything…
Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin vs. The Hype Bros (Kick Off Show)
This will be the opener of the match but much has been made of a potential split between Hype Bros Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder, and I feel like a match like this will give the pair the perfect opportunity to spoil it for one another and go their separate ways. Both are capable enough to go solo with Ryder being a former Intercontinental Champion and Rawley winning the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at Wrsetlemania (with help from New England Patriots’ Tight End Rob Gronkowski).
- Ellis’ Prediction: Chad & Shelton victory
- Liam’s Prediction: Chad & Shelton victory
- Callum’s Prediction: Chad & Shelton victory
Randy Orton vs Rusev
This feud is rather odd, but with Orton losing his last couple of feuds and Rusev losing time and time again to big match John Cena it was time for a change and these two just seemed to fit. Randy, or Randall Keith as I prefer to call him made very quick work of The Bulgarian Brute Rusev at Summerslam using the infamous meme, I mean finishing move the RKO (apparently it was out of nowhere too) to do so and this trend of quick matches followed. Orton was pinned by Aiden English on Smackdown and that gave Rusev the chance to run in and earn himself a pin of his own after a boot to the face. Rusev then got RKO’d at his Bulgarian celebration and the same will probably happen here. Expect a meaningless match really, but I hope to be surprised.
- Ellis’ Prediction: Randall Keith Orton wins
- Liam’s Prediction: Rusev wins
- Callum’s Prediction: Rusev wins
Dolph Ziggler vs Bobby Roode
Dolph Ziggler has been nothing short of a maniacal genius recently, he has fallen down the card and in response has stated that it is because his in ring abilities don’t matter simply due to the fact that his entrance isn’t over the top. This has resulted in some ingenious entrance spoofs of some of WWE’s all time greats, including Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker and Ultimate Warrior. A man who has disagreed with this standpoint of Ziggler’s is Bobby Roode, a former NXT Champion and sure to be main carder in the future. He has challenged Ziggler and to me this seems more like a stepping stone for Bobby to move on to bigger and better things, sorry Dolph.
- Ellis’ Prediction: Bobby Roode wins
- Liam’s Prediction: Bobby Roode wins
- Callum’s Prediction: Bobby Roode wins
Natalya (C) vs Charlotte Flair (Women’s Championship)
Charlotte Flair has to be the most protected woman in the division right now, her in-ring abilities are great but the fact that she is Ric Flair’s daughter is the primary reason for her rise to the top. Despite this she comes into the match as the challenger with heel Natalya, also related to a WWE Hall Of Famer in Bret Hart holding the Smackdown Women’s title. There are plenty of whispers that Carmella will cash in her Money In The Bank contract for this match and to be honest I hope she does because whoever wins out of these two won’t particularly interest me.
- Ellis’ Prediction: Natalya wins (Carmella successful cash in)
- Liam’s Prediction: Charlotte wins (Carmella successful cash in)
- Callum’s Prediction: Charlotte wins (Carmella successful cash in)
INSIDE THE CELL – The New Day (C) vs The Usos (Tag Team Titles)
This is a real match of the night contender right here. The first of the pay-per-view to be held inside the cell and it will be the first ever tag team match inside the structure so it is just going to be amazing. The feud between these two teams has been incredible and it will come to a dramatic finale here with the two best tag teams in the company going head to head. This is one of the hardest ones to call because they are so evenly matched and both such good performers but whichever way it pans out, I reckon it will be a classic.
- Ellis’ Prediction: The Usos win
- Liam’s Prediction: The New Day win
- Callum’s Prediction: The New Day win
Jinder Mahal (C) vs Shinsuke Nakamura (WWE Title)
Jinder refuses to defend the title inside the cell, probably because it limits the possibility of The Singh Brothers bailing Jinder the coward Champ out again. He has now held the title longer than Chris Jericho, Ric Flair, Mick Foley and more which is just an absolute disgrace, especially considering how shoddy his reign has been. We need a hero to bring the run to an end and Shinsuke Nakamura is that man, he’s nicknamed The Rockstar for a reason with his flamboyant entrance and the ability to have a crowd eating out the palm of his hand. He lost to Jinder at Summerslam earlier in the year but this has to be the moment now, Jinder surely can’t carry on as Champion because all it does is lower the title’s credibility and worth, especially given that AJ Styles, the far superior wrestler, is holding a far inferior title. I think the time may be up for the Modern Day Maharajah.
- Ellis’ Prediction: Shinsuke wins
- Liam’s Prediction: Shinsuke wins
- Callum’s Prediction: Shinsuke wins
AJ Styles (C) vs Baron Corbin (US Title)
This one could be another blockbuster of a fight and I really hope that the verbal tennis match that has gone on between the pair over recent weeks translates to some top quality rassling in that squared circle. AJ Styles is one of the most gifted wrestlers of his generation, plying his trade all over the world and winning big titles everywhere he went. He is one of the most well-loved superstars in the WWE today and it is hard to remember him not being generally awesome at everything. With that being said I almost feel like the US Title is a bit of a burden to him, he should be striving for the main event and the WWE title but his feuds with Owens, Jericho and of course this one with Corbin have been great. Baron has more than enough to cause him trouble and would make a great champ, this one is going to be interesting.
- Ellis’ Prediction: AJ Styles wins
- Liam’s Prediction: Baron Corbin wins
- Callum’s Prediction: AJ Styles wins
INSIDE THE CELL – Shane McMahon vs Kevin Owens
This is going to be amazing. The main event and the main attraction, the reason we are all here watching the PPV is to watch Shane O’Mac put his body on the line flying off high things and Kevin Owens to pop-up Powerbomb Shane through just about anything he can find. The feud has been ugly, with KO proving why he is the best talker in the WWE as well as a fantastic heel, he has headbutted and assaulted Vince McMahon, he beat up Sami Zayn and then demolished Shane on Smackdown, he has been a one-man wrecking ball recently. The booking may end up being that Shane uses the emotional intensity of the story to be put over on this occasion, upsetting the odds and beating the clearly superior wrestler in Kevin Owens, but the destruction could always continue and that’s the beauty of it, you just don’t know.
- Ellis’ Prediction: Shane wins
- Liam’s Prediction: Kevin Owens wins
- Callum’s Prediction: Kevin Owens wins
