These are Ellis’ 10 favourite WWE Wrestlers on the current roster, there is a Kingslayer, a Rockstar and an Eater Of Worlds on the list, but is there a Big Dog or a Beast Incarnate?
10: The Miz
The Miz is simply the best heel in the company, his mic skills are phenomenal and he has a swagger about him which fits the bad boy persona so perfectly. His character work has been nothing shy of sensational over the years and although a lot is made of him headlining Wrestlemania 27, it is a warranted reward for his years of mid-card dedication. The Skull-crushing Finale is a great finishing move and his mimicking of Daniel Bryan’s Yes Kicks is absolute gold, I wouldn’t have him any other way and I am glad he continues to be in the spotlight of Raw’s main event these days.
The Empress Of Tomorrow is by far and away my favourite Female wrestler and I honestly believe she will go down as the greatest female WWE superstar of all time when it is all said and done. She was NXT Champion for what felt like forever, and usually I am not a fan of stupidly long title reigns but I took exception to this one, simply because Asuka was so dominant and so enjoyable to watch there was literally nobody even close to her on the developmental stage. I am so glad that she has finally arrived on the main roster and her first two victories over Emma have been very entertaining, but we are yet to see the best of her, I cannot wait for her to have a simply amazing feud with Alexa Bliss for that RAW Women’s Championship.
8: Braun Strowman
The Monster Amongst Men has restored my faith in Big Men in wrestling, they are often seen as a dying trade these days; especially considering the fact that Big Show is a bit of a meme and has been for a number of years now. Braun has come in and mixed things up, he left the Wyatt Family and pursued his own ventures, gaining some serious heat in 2016 and 2017 with two massive feuds with Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. He is very athletic for a big man and his pulsating style is a joy to watch on a regular basis, I just hope that he continues this momentum and fingers crossed he can get a feud with someone else major and bury them.
7: Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho is hands down one of my favourite all-time wrestlers, his cocky persona is the stuff of genius and he can cut a promo better than anyone before or after him. The Man of 1004 holds is the greatest promo of all time I do not care what anybody says and he was the first ever Undisputed WWE Champion, how can you possibly argue with his credentials? His theme music and entrance continue to be as iconic as ever and he constantly manages to keep up with the times, most recently with the quite magnificent ‘List of Jericho’ which makes me laugh out loud every single time. He is more part time nowadays focusing on other ventures, but every time he returns I love it.
6: Kevin Owens
KO is one of the very best all-round superstars WWE has to offer, his mic skills and character work are just as good as his undoubted in-ring talents and the way he seamlessly floats between face and heel is just great. He is better as a heel and he knows that, using that microphone as a lethal weapon in feuds with the likes of Sami Zayn, AJ Styles and Chris Jericho. He is also great at being a model bad guy Champion, as was seen when he won the Universal Title in 2016 and went on to cheat his way to success time and time again. His Pop-Up Powerbomb finisher is just so gorgeous when executed properly and he sells extreme moves better than most, especially when he gets put through a table.
5: AJ Styles
The face that runs the place really is one slick guy. His move set is arguably the best in the WWE and he is a two time United States Champion as well as winning the WWE title at Backlash; not bad going for someone who only joined the WWE in January 2016. His feuds with John Cena and Kevin Owens have provided Match Of The Year candidates aplenty and his short notice step in to fight Finn Balor at this year’s TLC was stunning to watch. The crowd love him and he knows it, his signatures and finishers are top notch and he knows that too, but there’s no arrogance there; it is simply confidence you would expect from one of the best Pro wrestlers in the world.
4: Seth Rollins
He is the Kingslayer, has the best laugh in the world and also Burns It Down with his entrance. Whether Seth is heel or babyface, he is the coolest dude going and that is because he is Seth Freakin’ Rollins. His betrayal of The Shield was legendary and that character he created as a result, being the Authority’s project and protected Champion, was sublime. His feuds with the likes of Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar and The Demon Finn Balor have all been very cool and even when he doesn’t come out on top, Seth comes out of it looking cool and well-respected. Now that he is back with his Shield brothers I am expecting his stock to rise higher and higher before returning to the solo scene where he will be Champion once more.
3: Finn Balor
Finn Balor is a great dude and evidence to everyone that you don’t need to be a roided up mentalist to be a pro wrestling champion. The best part about Finn is that he hasn’t done it in the cliché underdog way that Rey Mysterio used to do it, Finn has done it using his staggeringly good in-ring abilities and I am a huge fan of everything about him. His entrance takes your breath away as he controls the crowd with single arm swoops, his menacing look is so cool and his Demon alter ego is just ace. He is unbeaten as the Demon but regular Finn is pretty damn sweet too, not to mention that his elite Coup de Grace finishing move is awesome.
2: Bray Wyatt
I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but I think Bray winning the WWE Title at Elimination Chamber 2017 was the single greatest moment of my life. He deserved it so much after years of feuding and losing with just about everyone in the company, despite the fact that he has worked harder than everyone in creating a character that will be a success in the WWE and work at the top level. His entrance is the stuff of dreams and I properly love it when the crowd get the fireflies out, his Wyatt Family angle was genius and above all, Sister Abigail is a bloody brilliant finishing move. If I had my way then The Eater Of Worlds would be over on SmackDown! Live feuding with Shinsuke and AJ for the WWE Title, that would be so iconic.
1: Shinsuke Nakamura
It is no secret to those who know me that this man has taken my love for WWE onto new levels since his arrival on SmackDown Live! from NXT, his style and persona is exemplary and I honestly believe he is right up there with the very best technical wrestlers on Planet Earth right now. His entrance is the best thing I have ever seen and continues to dazzle me week after week, he makes it a real performance and stays true to his ‘Rockstar’ nickname with the extravagance he displays. He is the King of Strong Style and quite frankly he is the King of the WWE right now in my eyes, the way he has been booked is a disgrace and the sooner he becomes WWE Champion (WrestleMania hopefully) the better; if not I am going to Kinshasa Triple H right in his fat nose.
