Top 10 WWE Wrestlers Of The Year

People will always draw comparisons between WWE now and the Attitude Era. People can say whatever they like, but the actual quality of wrestlers now is far and away superior to that of the 90’s. To pick a top 10 isn’t an easy task, I managed to whittle this one down based on their overall performance. That includes the promo skills, the in ring ability, and how successful they’ve been in winning matches and titles.

10. Bobby Roode

Bobby Roode has had himself a very healthy 2017. He defeated Nakamura for the NXT title and soon after was called up to the main roster. While he’s yet to get going after an underwhelming feud with Dolph Ziggler, he seems set to win the US title at some point next year. He never needed NXT, he’s a massive star who could’ve came straight to the main roster, but it certainly helped elevate him, he works best as a heel, though. 2018 needs to be the year Roode turns and has a massive mid to upper card run as the most arrogant man on the Smackdown brand.

9. Neville

I miss you, Neville. Who would have thought in 2016 that Neville would’ve had such a massive year? His return from injury involved a heel turn and saw him join the cruiserweight division, a division he would dominate for much of the year. He had great matches with Austin Aries, Jack Gallagher and Rich Swann, but it was ultimately the poor booking which saw him lose the title to Enzo Amore which caused Neville to bounce from the company, but he still deserved a mention in the top 10.

8. Alexa Bliss

The number one woman in the company this year. She’s been a fantastic heel, irritating crowds and even getting real life heat with some of the women in the locker room. The heat led to some great matches with Sasha Banks. Even though there was a couple flops, she’s overall been fantastic. She became the first woman to hold the Smackdown and Raw women’s titles, that cannot be ignored.

7. The Miz

Miz

The most well rounded man on this list. Nobody here comes close to The Miz on the mic, and his in ring work has improved massively from what he was back in the day. He’s made the Intercontinental title the most prestigious and important title on the entire show. His feuds with Cena and more importantly The Shield really show how amazing he is, and how much of an asset he is for the WWE in general.

6. Samoa Joe

Man I love Samoa Joe. He’s just in your face, agressive, and does the job he’s meant to. There’s no silly gimmicks or dumb theatrics, he’ll just beat people up and do it in a fun manner. He’s participation in the Summerslam title match and the Extreme Rules fatal 5 way were amazing, and his feud with Reigns, Balor and Lesnar have all showed him off to be a monster who’s going to get pushed even further in 2018, expect him to be carrying a belt of some sort.

5. The Bar

They don’t just set the bar, they are The Bar. A year ago this wouldn’t have been realistic, but Sheamus and Cesaro teaming up has rejuvinated their careers and led to some of the best matches of the year against The Shield and The Hardy Boyz. Their heel turn has been epic, and since The New Day switched to the blue brand, The Bar has dominated and been the number one reason Raw’s tag team division has been so fun.

4. The Uso’s

Much like The Bar, The Uso’s have been the main reason for Smackdown’s tag team success. Their feud with The New Day has been one of the greatest feuds in recent memory, time and again they put on the best match of the night, including an epic Hell in a Cell match. The reason they are one place above The Bar is simple, in their one meeting this year at Survivor Series The Uso’s came out on top, in what was a very fun match, hopefully they stick around the blue brand for the foreseeable, and feud with the Bludgeon Brothers and perhaps even Sanity or AOP.

3. Braun Strowman

Strowman is never going to be the best wrestler on the roster, but he’s had some of the funnest moments of the year, some of the biggest spots, and one of the biggest pushes. He’s feud with Roman Reigns was filled with epic wars, his demolition of Lesnar at Summerslam was fantastic. His domination of The Big Show led to some killer spots like him throwing Show through the steel cage. He crushed Triple H and was one of the survivors in the Survivor Series match, all in all a massive year for the Monster Among Men.

2. Roman Reigns

Oh be quiet everyone before you start whining about Reigns being no good. If you praise Strowman for their feud then you have to praise Reigns as well. Reigns who beat The Undertaker and Wrestlemania and beat John Cena? He’s the current Intercontinental champ and he’s had great match after great match. The hate is not necessary, the only reason people hate him is because they know he’s Vince McMahon’s cash cow. Win, lose or draw Reigns puts on a great show, people hate him because it’s the obvious thing to do, but I genuinely think he’s starting to turn the naysayers views on him.

1. AJ Styles

AJ Styles has had a monster year. When he debuted in 2016, he wasn’t meant to be the main guy, according to Dave Meltzer anyway. So he’s proven that through hard work, stellar promos, and by far and away being the best wrestler, you can prove Vince McMahon wrong. He’s matches with Balor, Lesnar, Owens and Ambrose have all led to some of the best matches of the year, even his feud with McMahon made Shane look like an amazing in ring worker. What else can you say? Styles is simply the cream of the crop, and unless Omega comes to the WWE or they start handling Nakamura correctly, it’s going to stay that way.
